We are home from the trade show, and what a trade show it was!  We can't wait for all of our orders to start pouring into the shop!  Color in the garden is the name of the game this year, and Made in the USA continues to be a strong theme.  Also, we've noticed an increased awareness of beauty from the birdfeeder manufacturers.  Gone are the days of utilitarian, mechanical-looking birdfeeders.  Welcome, form AND function!  Never before has it been so easy to attract birds attractively.  Stop in and see what's new!

We are very excited to be heading out to the biggest trade show of the year to view new products for 2012...a shopping spree for the shop!  We're looking forward to selecting the best birdfeeding products and nature-themed home and garden accessories to offer to Pittsburgh nature lovers.  The shop will remain open while we're gone thanks to Kathy, who's been helping out at the shop for nearly a year now.  Kathy's an avid bird feeder  and nature enthusiast!  She spent her teaching career encouraging children to appreciate and care for the natural world around them, and now she can continue doing so on a different level with all the wonderful adults who shop at The Songbird Sanctuary.  For Kathy, every day is a new opportunity to learn and share; and we're so glad to have her on board!

Happy New Year!  After weeks of mild temperatures, we're finally experiencing a real Pittsburgh Winter!  More birds are showing up at feeders as they increase their food intake as a means of staying warm.  Keeping feeders full and birdbaths ice free will help your birds stay happy and healthy.  Keep a close eye on your birdbath for American Robins and other species that don't typically visit seed feeders.  Not all American Robins migrate to warmer climates in Winter.  Some stay here in Pittsburgh where they retreat to wooded areas and trade in their warm-weather-worm diet for a cold-Winter-berry diet.  Enjoy Winter!
