When the folks at Heartwood say they mean green, they mean it. Heartwood doesn't cut corners, and they don't cut trees. Ever. Heartwood uses short pieces of cypress that would otherwise be discarded or used to fire kilns; and since Heartwood's lumber suppliers are within a 2-hour drive, they keep their carbon footprint small. Even the sawdust produced during Heartwood's manufacturing process goes into garden mulch where it adds nutrients to the soil as it naturally deteriorates. Also, by manufacturing their unique birdhouses in Star, Mississippi, Heartwood is providing jobs right here in the good old USA!

For shipping, Heartwood uses clean and recyclable unprinted newsprint salvaged from a large daily paper; and rather than having new boxes manufactured, Heartwood uses box over-runs from a local box factory.
Heartwood bird homes are available in a variety of colors, one of which is grey. Heartwood uses a local paint store's stock of mis-tinted paint (a.k.a. mistakes) to create their grey, which is the color resulting naturally from mixing all the mis-tinted colors together.

Bluebird Manor is crafted of naturally rot and decay resistant cypress. Did you know that cypress trees regenerate? The stump automatically regenerates a new sapling when a tree is harvested. Saplings also sprout from the root system of a healthy adult cypress tree. Good stuff.
Each stone-washed shingle and piece of copper is is skillfully created and applied by hand.
Hinged front door means easy access for viewing and cleaning.
Drainage and ventilation.
Mounting paddle for easy hanging.
